Got it on the way home from work when I was picking up munchies.
I'm going to a wedding tomorrow, I'm taking it with me to ice someone. boom
This comes from this, which is hilarious. I really hope whoever was at the register called you out. Also, Matt might be my favorite interweb bro out there. I want to party with this kid (but without getting iced).
Ever since I bought the YourMorningRock.com URL after I closed up the DeadOn shop, I’ve had every intention of blogging again some day. Every time I think I’m getting ready to make it a regular thing, I get caught up in a combination of being busy at work and apathy towards free time blogging….
DeadOn was greatness and the YMR posts were one of the best parts. If you aren’t already following, Chris is a bro of the highest order (at least as much as I’ve gotten to know him via the good old interwebs.) and you should follow the ensuing greatness.
Sorry I missed yesterday, I was studying during the day and I didn’t realize I had forgotten until the 2nd game was in the 4th quarter. This may happen a few times over the next 2 weeks, I’m a failure, you all know this. On to today’s picks:
Orlando Magic (-4.5) @ Charlotte Bobcats ***
Go ahead and get your brooms out kids. The Bobcats put up a fight in game 3 but still came up 4 points short. Some will argue take Charlotte because pride will kick in and they don’t want to get swept. I’m going the other way, they fired their best shot over the weekend and still came up short. I think they come out defeated and the Magic will be out for blood, wanting to rest up for their round 2 matchup by pulling a sweep.
Atlanta Hawks (-2.5) @ Milwaukee Bucks **
The Bucks came out this weekend and put a hurt on the Hawks in front of their hometown crowd. Brandon Jennings is usually the big story, but John Salmons really got the job done. So why go with Atlanta tonight? Josh Smith went 2 of 12 from the field…2 of 12!! That’s not going to happen again. The talent disparity is too deep between these teams and the Hawks now know how loud the Milwaukee fans are going to be. I think they come back strong tonight.
Portland Trailblazers (+7) @ Phoenix Suns ***
I have absolutely no idea what to do with this series. I can’t buy a bucket with these two. But the Blazers have really started to get things going, especialy LaMarcus Aldridge. Throw in the surprise return of Brandon Roy, and momentum now sits with the Blazers. I don’t know if they win this, but the spread is pretty large. Am I falling for public opinion? Am I going to be wrong, again, in this series? Wouldn’t surprise me, but let’s have some fun.
Orlando Magic (-3) @ Charlotte Bobcats *** 90-86 Magic, Win. Just by the hairs on my chinny chin chin.
Atlanta Hawks (+1) @ Milwaukee Bucks **** 107-89 Bucks, Loss. I was as surprised by the Bucks crowd as the Hawks were, ugly game.
LA Lakers (+1) @ OKC Thunder **** 110-89 Thunder, Loss. Man am I glad I missed this pick, this was an absolute beatdown by the Broingtons. The Oklahoma City crowd was pretty absurd, and the Thunder really got the job done.
Phoenix Suns (-2.5) @ Portland Trailblazers **** 96-87 Blazers, Loss. I didn’t know Roy was coming back, or that Aldridge was going to drop 31, oops.
4/24 record: 1-3
Playoff record: 9-15….this is just embarrassing really.
I’m not gonna play your game Vegas. Orlando will step on the throat tonight.
Phoenix Suns (-2.5) @ Portland Trailblazers ****
Atlanta Hawks (+1) @ Milwaukee Bucks ****
Once again, Vegas really thinks these teams that are down are gonna step up today. Allow me to disagree once again. Bucks still cant shut down Joe Johnson or Josh Smith.
LA Lakers (+1) @ OKC Thunder ****
I hope I’m wrong on this one, but Phil Jackson is allegedly a good coach right? At some point he’s going to realize that Bynum and Gasol can have a field day down low against Collison, Ibaka, et al right? You can’t deny the Thunder’s ability or their home court advantage, but there is such a glaring mismatch down low, you have to figure Jackson will realize this and finally tell Kobe to quit chucking.
Boston Celtics (+4) @ Miami Heat *** 100-98 Celtics. Win. You really want to let Paul Pierce have his favorite jumper off the right elbow at the buzzer? Come on son.
Spurs (-3.5) vs Dallas Mavericks *** 94-90 Spurs, Win. What a freaking ballgame. My hack words can’t do this battle justice. One of the best rivalries in the league gave us another classic last night.
Denver Nuggets (+2.5) @ Utah Jazz **** 105-93 Jazz. Loss. I have no idea on this series, I really don’t. Deron Williams is all that is man.
Normally I’d pick the Heat here, but they just looked like they were completely crushed in game 2. I think they are doneski.
Spurs (-3.5) vs Dallas Mavericks ***
Game 2 was amazing, but much like there were things in game 1 that I said wouldn’t happen again, the same can be said for game 2. The officiating was definitely more on the Spurs side than it was on the Mavs. I also don’t see Dirk only shooting 9 of 24 from the floor. The Spurs were able to get away with not doubling Dirk, and still forced him into some bad shots. That being said, I Dirk also just had a cold shooting night. Dirk will play better. However, the Spurs got great production from the big 3 and RJ finally woke up. If that continues, expect another Spurs W in front of what will be a jacked crowd.
Denver Nuggets (+2.5) @ Utah Jazz ****
Game 2 absolutely blew my mind. I think the Nuggets may have come out thinking this series was in the bag and let up on the throttle. Now you’ve got an angry Carmelo looking for revenge.
Cleveland Cavaliers (-5) @ Chicago Bulls **** 108-106 Bulls, Loss. Derrick Rose was an absolute beast last night. He was creating shots, dropping dimes, and protecting the ball (31-7-0TOs!!). LeBron had 39 but it wasn’t enough in the end as he continues to force up ill-advised jumpers.
LA Lakers (+3.5) @ OKC Thunder ** 101-96 Thunder, Loss. I should’ve stuck with my gut, but I’m an idiot. Durant came on strong offensively in the 4th and was a force defending and rebounding on the other end. Russel Westbrook was the star of the night for OKC, he could do no wrong. Kobe really killed the Lakers last night. The Thunder can’t contend with the Lakers big men, yet Kobe kept chucking all night.
Phoenix Suns (-1) @ Portland Trailblazers *** 108-89 Suns, Win. This was just a curbstomp, plain and simple.
Last night: 1-2
Playoff Record: 6-11. Bile, ewwww, how f’ed UP you are.
Playoff Record of others:
@JudsonCc: 7-2, nice 2-1 night continues his absurd record.
leeleeleelee: 1-3, Lee stays in the red guaranteeing a few more picks after a 1-2 night. Door’s open if you’d like to play, wanna join the fun?
Is this grounds for dropping a team? Trading a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rd pick to take TIM FUCKING TEBOW in the 1st round??? I…I just…I can’t believe this happened. Josh McDaniels has now entered my top 5 most hated in sports.
As a Broncos fan there are plenty of needs to be addressed with the Draft over the next few days. My hope? I wan’t Rolando McClain (ILB from Bama) in the 1st round. A lot of people have said Dez Bryant, but I think there is some great WR talent that will be around when the 2 2nd round picks come up. With guy like Arellious Benn and my man Golden Tate, there should still be quality WR for the Broncos to pick in the 2nd. Bryant is a great WR without a doubt, by far the best available. However, Dez strikes me as a head case waiting to happen. This has nothing to do with the NCAA suspension, that was a bad situation and he got unduly punished. He just reeks of that diva mentality you see so often with WRs. Josh has already shown he doesn’t put up with it, and it would likely end with them fighting and trading him later on for pennies on the dollar.
With the defensive changes that Denver is making, McClain would fit perfectly in the new system and bring a familiarity to it more than some of the pros would have based on having run the same system with the Tide. WRs can always be gotten late, hell, Marshall was a 5th round pick back in the day. Defense is a much bigger issue for Denver, so why not take a guy who will fit in perfectly?
But that’s my thoughts for my team, who do you want over the next few days for yours?
Some will point to the Cavs habit of clowning around in game as a reason that this will be a close game or a win for the Bulls. I don’t think that’s how things will go tonight. If there is one thing the Cavs like to do, it’s rest their players. I think LeBron and Co will be looking to end the Bulls quickly so they can be well rested for the 2nd round. There is too much of a talent disparity and now the Cavs know they need to slow down Joakim Noah.
LA Lakers (+3.5) @ OKC Thunder **
I love the Thunder, I really want this series to go long and I think that the Thunder can win this game. That being said, the Lakers should not be getting points. I’m gonna try the old go against the public opinion play tonight. I think most people are going to pick OKC tonight, part because they want them, part because they expect a comeback. I hope I’m wrong on this one, but I think we get an angry OT Kobe tonight.
Phoenix Suns (-1) @ Portland Trailblazers ***
Well, the Suns finally decided in game 2 to do what I picked them to do in game 1. Of course now that I’m picking them, they will blow it. I’m the kryptonite in this series it appears. Here’s hoping I’m not an Albatross to PHX again and they actually get the job done.
Charlotte Bobcats (+9) @ Orlando Magic *** Result: 92-77 Magic, loss. This time Orlando covered the big spread. Can’t buy a bucket.
San Antonio Spurs (+4) @ Dallas Mavericks **** Result: 102-88 Spurs, WIN! Man this game was fun. We’ve got ourselves a ballgame ladies and gents.
Last Night: 1-1
Playoff Record: 5-9
Playoff Records of others:
@JudsonCc: 5-1. No picks last night, so he stays pat.
Leeleeleelee: 0-1. My squirrel loving friend goes down with his Mavs, but I’m glad more people are joining in. You know what to do kids.
Honestly right now I can’t split logical analysis from my love of the Spurs. I honestly think the Spurs pull the upset tonight in Game 2. I think the fact that it was only a 6 point game even with Dirk in video game mode, half the Spurs not showing up, huge FT disparity, and possible lingering injuries all lead to good things for San Antonio. But it could be the fact that I’m about 10 minutes away from heading to the arena to watch my team play in the playoffs. I guess we’re about to find out. Say hello to the bad guy.
I’m a little gunshy, I still don’t think the Bobcats can stop Dwight, but they are a fantastic defensive team, and I’m tired of missing big lines by a point or less.
San Antonio Spurs (+4) @ Dallas Mavericks ****
I have a theory on Game 1. Throughout the years, the Spurs and Mavs have met many many times. These teams know each other as well as you can, so the coaches have to get cute to try and get an advantage. In the last game of the regular season, DeJuan Blair had arguably his best game of a fantastic rookie year, dropping 27 points and pulling 23 boards. Yet in game 1, Blair only saw 8 minutes of playing time early in the game, even as the Spurs were getting beat on the glass and Dirk was unstoppable from the floor. Pop in the past has held substitutions and matchups in his back pocket in early games. My theory is that Pop saw early on that Dirk wasn’t going to miss a shot. Hell, he didn’t even double team. He was content to let Matt Bonner keep getting beat like the literal red headed step child* he is. (Note, Bonner may not actually be a step child, but he is the gingerest ginger this side of Brian Scalabrine, so it’ll work). Some years Pop switched Bruce Bowen’s assignment in game 3, or bring Michael Finley off the bench for more minutes to spread the floor after an early series deficit. I think Pop knew Dirk was unstoppable that night, so he was going to count this as his sacrifice to the Gods and save a club in his bag for later. I’d also say it’s a safe bet that Tony will be back in the starting lineup tonight, but everyone is saying that one. Dirk will not go 12 of 14 from the floor tonight, the Mavs will not shoot 20 more (!!) free throws than the Spurs tonight, and this round of Global Thermo-Nuclear war will go to the Black and Silver.
Atlanta Hawks (-8) vs Milwaukee Bucks *** Result: 96-86 Hawks, Win. Joe Johnson is very good at this game, and Josh Smith is just a bad man.
Miami Heat (+1) vs Boston Celtics **** Result: 106-77 Celtics, Loss. Yikes, this was just a miserable game to watch. Let’s just shut this series down now shall we?
Portland Trailblazers (+8.5) @ Phoenix Suns *** Result: 119-90 Suns, Loss. Of course now the Suns do what I said they would do in both my series pick and game 1. As always kids, timing.
Oklahoma City Thunder (+6.5) @ LA Lakers **** Result: 95-92 Lakers, Win. This was really the only watchable game on last night, but WOW, what a ballgame. Kevin Durant had a pretty good look to win this thing at the end, and then Jeff Green another to tie, but the young kids just couldn’t hit. There were some sofffft calls toward the end of the game that you have to figure wont happen away from Staples, but this Thunder team showed they can hang. I hope they can pull a few W’s because this matchup finally gave us what we were hoping for last night.
Last night: 2-2
Playoff Record: 4-8. Well, finally broke the cold streak, but I need to go on a little run to get this back to respectable.
Playoff records of Others:
@JudsonCc: 5-1. Wowser, a rowdy 4-0 night will really help the record there Jud.
Man, I picked the wrong time to go on a cold streak. The last 2 days have been ugly, let’s see if we can’t turn this around.
Atlanta Hawks (-8) vs Milwaukee Bucks ***
You’d think I would learn my lesson about larger lines, but I’m going against my better judgment and sticking with what I think is the vastly superior team. The Hawks took game 1 by 10 and should’ve won by more. The Bucks can’t slow down Joe Johnson, if he gets hot, it’s over.
Miami Heat (+1) vs Boston Celtics ****
The Heat blew game one in an absurd comeback by the Celtics. Without KG, Miami has a huge advantage and should be able to steal one in Boston. This line is a little surprising to me admittedly, take that for what you will.
Portland Trailblazers (+8.5) @ Phoenix Suns ***
This game 1 blew my mind. I thought the Blazers were donezo without Brandon Roy. I think Phoenix wins tonight still, don’t get me wrong, but Portland has shown they can hang, and that line is a little too big for me.
Oklahoma City Thunder (+6.5) @ LA Lakers ****
I thought game 1 was very interesting between these two. First off, the Lakers can’t do anything against Westbrook. The young PG is one of the main reasons for the Thunder’s success this year. The Thunder should be able to take advantage of LA’s defensive issues with some more pick and rolls/pops. Durant was getting good looks all night, he just had an off night shooting. Chalk it up to nerves in his postseason game, being under the lights in Staples, whatever you want. The thing is, that isn’t going to keep happening. Expect a much better showing by OKC tonight.
Cleveland Cavaliers (-11) vs Chicago Bulls *** Result: 112-102, Loss. (stupid big line)
Denver Nuggets (-7) vs Utah Jazz ***** Result: 114-111, Loss. (ummmm, WTF was that Denver?? Where the hell did Utah come from? Amazing effort by the Jazz, I should not have doubted them the way I did. Maybe they aren’t gonna pack it up and go home. This was a fantastic game to watch, even if it was marred by overactive officials)
Playoff Record: 2-6. That’s an ugly 5 game losing streak for me. Something’s gotta give.
Playoff Records of others:
@JudsonCc : 1-1. My boy Judson didn’t fall for the big line in Cleveland but crashed and burned w/ me and the Nuggets. But hey, top of the tables.
Think you can beat me or Judson? Enjoy random competition with people whom you may only know via interweb? Step into Thunderdome and play along won’t you?
I think the Magic will take this game handily, but the line does scare me a bit. While Charlotte is ugly away from home, they are a great defensive team. The problem is they don’t have anyone who can stop Dwight Howard, so I’m expecting monster numbers from him.
San Antonio Spurs (+4.5) @ Dallas Mavericks ***
Not gonna lie, this is a pretty homeriffic pick. The thing is, the Mavs haven’t seen a truly healthy Spurs team in awhile. I’m hoping Pop has a few surprises for his old foes, starting with a steal of game 1 here in Dallas.
Phoenix Suns (-9) vs Portland Trailblazers ***
Again, a frighteningly large line. Without Roy though, I don’t think the Blazers have a chance. They also don’t have anybody that can effectively shut down Nash.
Atlanta Hawks (-8.5) vs Milwaukee Bucks *** Result:102-92 Hawks. Win
Miami Heat (+4.5) @ Boston Celtics *** Result:85-76 Celtics. Loss. (I got screwed on this one, the Heat really blew this game)
Denver Nuggets (-5.5) vs Utah Jazz **** Result: 126-113 Nuggets. Win
Playoff Record: 2-1. Again, if you all want to join the fun, feel free to make your picks on here as well and I’ll keep track.
I’m going to change things up for the playoffs. For kicks, I’m going to try to pick every game. Since the Cavs-Bulls game is about to end (with Barrister’s Ball aka Law School Prom last night, it was a late night) so I’m obviously not going to get into it. There will obviously be games and days I miss. I at least have the excuse of finals coming up, but if you’ve been here during the regular season, you know I just flat out miss days. The regular season ended for me at 43-43-2. That’s right, .500. I am the pinnacle of mediocrity. Can’t stop, won’t stop. Let’s play the game shall we?
Atlanta Hawks (-8.5) vs Milwaukee Bucks ***
I don’t think the Bucks have a chance in this series without Bogut. Throw in the fact that Atlanta is a scary place to play during the playoffs (if only this could translate to Baseball) and I think Joe Johnson and crew get out to a 1-0 lead with a dominant victory tonight. Only reason I only give this 3 stars is with that big of a line, you can get into free throw line busting chicanery at the end.
Miami Heat (+4.5) @ Boston Celtics ***
I think D-Wade is going to go off tonight to set the pace for this series and steal one from Boston. Boston has been playing brutal ball the last month or so and Miami is scorching hot right now. Upset alert!!
Denver Nuggets (-5.5) vs Utah Jazz ****
As I explained here, I don’t get the Jazz hype. There is a very decent chance that I’m just an idiot and will get punished, but I think Melo will lead the Nuggets to a big victory at home. Both teams rely on their home floors more than almost anyone in the league (Charlotte is up there) and really hurt on the road. That should continue tonight.
Get excited kids, feel free to make your own predictions as well. I finally got comments working, just click on # comments at the bottom of the post to play along if you aren’t a Tumblr user. Anyone that plays along on here, I’ll keep track of their records along with mine.
Today’s Pick: San Antonio Spurs (+6) @ Dallas Mavericks *****
Sorry, tech plague 2k10 continued the last few days, but we’re back. I’m busting out the 5star tonight. This will be a great game tonight. Last game of the regular season, and I’m going to be there, which over the last few years has always made for great games. The Spurs will win this game. No doubt in my mind no this one. The Spurs will win, making everybody think “Hey, maybe they’ve got a shot in the 1st round.” I’ll get all excited, and then they will get crushed by the Mavs. It’s just how this thing is gonna go.
Last Pick(4/10):Denver Nuggets (-6.5) vs San Antonio Spurs ****
Dude, as soon as you left the bar, the band started playing Beat It while the music video was playing. I believe that was your million dollar idea.
Bhav texted me that, so bush league. We came up wiht that all on our own!! Seriously, I feel like this could be a business. Karaoke, but with the music video? Greatness. F that Arlington band and their idea stealing 20 minutes later.
Today’s Pick: Denver Nuggets (-6.5) vs San Antonio Spurs ****
I hate picking against my Spurs, I really do. However, we all know how bad they are in the 2nd game of a back to back. Combine that with the fact that the Nuggets are still in the hunt for the 2 seed and will be going full bore, I don’t like the Spurs chances tonight.
Yesterday’s Pick: OKC Thunder (-4) vs Phoenix Suns ****
Today’s Pick: OKC Thunder (-4) vs Phoenix Suns ****
While the Suns are coming off a big win against the Spurs while the Thunder are coming off 2 very tough losses to the Nuggets and the Jazz. As of now, the Thunder sit in the 8 seed based on tie breakers, even though the Blazers, Spurs, and Thunder are all 7 games back. I expect the Thunder to make a late push up the standings, starting with a big win tonight at home over Phoenix. PHX is not a great road team, only 3 games over .500 on the year. Look for that trend to continue tonight.
Yesterday’s pick: LA Lakers(+1.5) @ Denver Nuggets ***
Result: 98-96 Nuggets, Loss. (Incredibly frustrating loss for me as I made the pick under the belief Kobe would play. Lakers still almost pulled it off, but their last play was a Derek Fisher Iso…Are you serious?!?)
Today’s Pick: LA Lakers(+1.5) @ Denver Nuggets ***
Thursday always means a small slate of games. While the Lakers have struggled a bit without Bynum, who is still out tonight, I like the Lakers tonight. The Nuggets played a tough game against the young OKC Thunder last night and have several players nursing some injuries, including Birdman and Chauncey. Not to mention the stinger Melo suffered last night. Both have plenty to play for as LA can lock up the #1 overall seed in the West while the Nuggets are in a fierce battle with the Mavs for the 2 seed. For some reason I have a feeling that Kobe is going to lead the Lakers to a statement victory.
Yesterday’s Pick: Boston Celtics (-6.5) @ Toronto Raptors ****
Result: 115-104 Celtics. Win
Record to Date: 42-40-2. Streak: 1 Win.
EDIT: I originally wrote (-1.5) when in fact the Nuggets were favored. My bad.
Today’s Pick: Boston Celtics (-6.5) @ Toronto Raptors ****
I know, I know. I said I was gonna be back to daily picks once I got my computer back. Well, I’m a big fat liar. It’s that time of the year, shenanigans get in the way, what can I say. Back to it though. The Raptors are clinging to hopes for a playoff run, but with Chris Bosh getting his face broken last night and likely out tonight, I think the Celtics will be looking to show they are still a top threat in the East. Plus, they don’t have to deal with LeBron dropping 40+ to make a comeback against them.
Last Pick (4/3): New Orleans Hornets (-3.5) @ NJ Nets ***
Result: 115-87 Nets. Violent loss
Record to Date: 41-40-2. Streak: 3 Losses.
Getting to the end of the season, looks like I’ll be keeping some intrigue alive with whether or not I can stay above .500.
