NDEddieMac’s 2k11 Bowl Pick Extravaganza: Title Game Score Update

Well kids, it’s all come down to this. In about 90 minutes the Alabama Crimson TIde will take on the undefeated LSU Tigers in the Superdome of New Orleans to decide who gets a crystal football. If Bama wins, we could hear talk of a split title, but hopefully tonight’s affair will be better than the 9-6 game that was as much ineffectual offense as it was defensive prowess.  But where do we stand in this battle of wills? Here are the scores to date, along with everyone’s pick in the title game.

Me: 29 points, LSU (38 tiebreak)
Don: 28 points, LSU (34 tiebreak)
Matt: 24 points
, LSU (48 tiebreak)
David: 24 points
, Bama (45 tiebreak)
Kristin: 23 points, LSU (27 tiebreak)
NDTex: 22 points, LSU (27 tiebreak)
Brett: 19 points, LSU (33 tiebreak)
Brian: 18 points, LSU (1 tiebreak)

So going into the game, there are two people who can win. It’s a simple game. If LSU wins, I win. If Bama wins, David and I end up in a tie. Based on our picks, if the total is 41 or lower, I win, 42 and up, it’s all Dave’s. So either David will be getting all sorts of lavish prizes, or I just don’t have to mail anything, cause I’m awesome.  Thanks again to everyone for playing along. You guys are awesome.

NDEddieMac’s 2k11 Bowl Pick Extravangaza: Score Update

Hello and Happy New Year friends. I hope you all survived the NYE weekend, I did, but not by much. In fact, I ended up in Dallas until late Monday, hence no score update right after the 1st round ended. I’m sure you were all waiting w/ baited breath, but BLeez was nice enough to add the first round points up. I assumed he was right, but just in case, here’s a full breakdown of all the games up to this date. I’ll start w/ the 1st round after the jump and give the score there, and then go on to the 2nd & 3rd round games w/ a full score breakdown at the end. Essentially, if you don’t really care, go to the bottom.

Thank God this year is over

This year’s ND squad has been nothing short of horrifically frustrating all year. Today was merely a microcosm. I’m very happy to never watch this squad again.

I’m just sad that’s how Michael Floyd had to end his career. You’re in my top 3 of favorite ND players I’ve gotten to watch Cannon. Would’ve been #1 easily had you not always been hurt. You deserved so much better.

Here’s hoping Rees follows Crist out the damn door.

That’s all for sake of brevity and no more bitter ranting. Figure my twitter feed got most of that out of the way tonight.

NDEddieMac’s 2k11 Bowl Pick Extravaganza: Rounds 2 & 3

Well, well, well, here we go again. All of the remaining bowl games (those starting 12/31) will be featured in this post. Remember, non-BCS games are worth 2 points, BCS games will be worth 3 and the title rematch is a big 5 pointer. Even if you didn’t join in Round 1, a solid performance here could easily bump you over those who were. Plus, there are prizes to be had for free. Ya like free dont ya? I will have a point update for you once all of Round 1’s games have been played, so be on the lookout for that. But for now, to the bowls that have teams you’ve actually heard of/are better than decent at football for the most part.

NDEddieMac’s 2k11 Bowl Pick Extravaganza: Round 1

We’ve had some fun this year, we’ve picked some winners, and plenty of losers, talked some trash, stumped for our alma maters, and done what all good college football fans do. But that was just the regular season. Because the Powers That Be hate us, fun, money, and competition, we still have a bowl system. So let’s pick some bowls. Which bowls you ask? ALL OF THE BOWLS. That’s right kids, we’re gonna do the damn thing up big. This will consist of 3 rounds. The first round, the page you are currently reading, will cover all the bowls starting on Saturday 12/17 through Friday 12/30. These games will be worth 1 point a piece, because most of us haven’t seen more than 10 minutes of play this year from most of these teams. Round 2 will be all of the bowls that take place starting Saturday 12/31 that are not BCS bowls. These games, since they are “better” bowls, will be worth 2 points. Round 3 will obviously be the BCS games and the National Title game. The BCS games will be worth 3 points, the Title game will be 5. The tiebreaker will be your guess for the total points scored in the title game. Why do we need a tiebreaker you ask? Well kids, we’ve been doing this for shits and giggles so far, and it’s fun. But let’s make it interesting. That’s right, Prizes for the winner. PRIZES! Will they be awesome? Nope. I have random gift cards in my house/wallet. I have no clue if they are still valid or have any money on them, but they can be YOURS!! If you didn’t pick during the year, don’t worry, this is a whole new ballgame. Get excited. This should be fun. As always, we pick against the spread. The downside to having to pick so far ahead is the lines may change. HOWEVAH, just pick against the spread I post. Also, make all your picks at once for each round. Some may be tempted to go day by day, don’t be that guy. You will be disqualified for annoying me/making my life harder. LET’S PICK SOME BOWLS WOOOOOOOOOOOOO

College Football Week 14 Results

Apparently I forgot to give the results from the final week of games last week. You all should be well aware by now that I’m an idiot, so this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. How’d we close out the regular season?

If only there was a way…

Okie State did as well as they could tonight. I mean, they beat the sam fuck out of OU. But odds, are? we still get stuck with Alabama-LSU part deux. This infuriates me for 2 reasons. The 1st: I don’t wanna watch them play again. It’s completely foolish to have a team play a team they’ve already lost to for the title. If Bama wins, they should have to play a rubber match. The 2nd part, which may anger me more: Is Alabama totally deserves to be #2. OSU did all they could, but they lost to Iowa State. ISU is fucking miserable. They’re a 6-6 team that should’ve been murdered. But on a Friday night, they pulled off a huge, double OT upset over Okie St. Bama’s only loss this year was to LSU, in overtime. How can you argue w/ a 3 point loss in OT to the #1 team in the land?? That’s the worst part. If only we could have Oklahoma State play Bama for a shot at LSU. Fucking BCS. It’s a great system when there’s a clear 1-2. You could argue you have that this year. But the thought of a team playing a team they already beat for a nat’l title blows my mind. Sports are stupid. I may be dumber. I’d love to hear yall’s thoughts on this. I just think a rematch is fundamentally retarded.

College Football Final Picks

This is the last week of the year kids. We’ve got 4 conference title games and one de facto title game. An important song before we get to work. Since the Pac 12 game is tomorrow we won’t be picking it, but let’s be serious. Oregon -ALL THE POINTS. Before we get to the picks, this goes out to all you lovely people who have been joining me on this journey throughout the year:

Since I’m Twitter jailed…

Notre Dame just lost to Stanford 28-14. A late TD made it look better than it was. The 1st half was absolutely miserable. Penalties, turnovers, inability to get plays off, everything that has happened bad during ND games happened in full form. Rees got banged up on a big hit, leading to Kelly putting Hendrix in. This led to some questions from folks, but whatever, if that’s who he wanted to go with, fine.

The main issue is when Rees came back, Kelly decided to start flip flopping the two qb’s play for play. Unsurprisingly, turnovers happened. This of course is after Rees couldn’t get snaps off and we had multiple false starts. In the last week of the year, that shit is just unacceptable. I’m done defending Kelly after this game. At some point you have to show something. This many dumb mistakes at this point in the year is insane. Are there mitigating factors? Sure. Having Braxton Cave out is painful. And I guess you can argue it’s a road game, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen Palo Alto listed as a dangerous place to play.

The good news is, there were some bright points. The D played pretty well in the 2nd half. As bad as the 1st was, they stepped up big time in the 2nd. Aaron Lynch is an absolute monster on the Defensive Line. His classmate Stephon Tuitt has shown huge strides this year as well, but missed the game due to some mystery illness that’s been floating around this week. Once Hendrix came in full time during the 2nd half, he showed flashes of success. Yes there was a pick on a ball that was tipped due to being overthrown, but he at least had some success, unlike Rees today.

Odds are, we end up in the Champs Sports Bowl. Am I happy, clearly no, but you take the opportunity and make the most of the extra practice time. Plus, whoever runs their twitter account is awesome. I’ve said this before tonight, but then I had a little exchange with them (here) which was quite amusing. Before the year, I predicted ND going 10-2 in the regular season (read all the idiocy here) with a non BCS bowl win. I always expected to lose to Stanford. The loss tonight is not what’s demoralizing. Just like against USF and Michigan, is was the way we lost that is so damned frustrating. Moreover, the fact that it was ANOTHER time in which sloppy execution, stupid penalties, and ridiculous strategy played such a big part. But it seems like a given we will play FSU in Orlando, and so that will happen. Whatever, I’m done with this year.

So where do we go from here? Lots of people keep saying that this team is on the way up, Kelly will right the ship, etc. I want Kelly to be the guy, but I dont see next year being better. In fact, I see next year being far, far worse. ND’s schedule gets much tougher. The usual suspects appear, with USC and Michigan a year better and further into their new outfits. Add in Miami and Oklahoma in Norman? Plus, the first week of the year ND plays in Dublin against Navy. Navy is a strange enough opponent, but following what is sure to be tons of pomp and circumstance in a different country? That’s a strange opener at the very least.

Now let’s look at what ND loses talent wise. 3 Offensive line starters. Arguably (yes I will argue it) the best WR in the land in Michael Floyd, all 4 starters in your secondary….Sure, the Irish have a lot of young talent, but come on man, you think you will be better with all those guys gone?? I have a hard time believing there wont be a huge drop off.

Maybe I’m being overly dramatic. It wouldn’t be the first time. But I’m yet to see anything leading me to believe that A) Brian Kelly can be the guy and B) we will be any better next year. I hope like hell I’m wrong. I love what Kelly’s done in his career and thought it was a great hire. But how are you having the same issues in the last week of the year that you had at the beginning? How can your team come out so flat in big games so frequently? We’ll just have to see next year. At least I’ll always have my chat with a bowl game.

College Football 2k11 Week 13 Picks

Well after an insane set of games last week, we come to “rivalry week” with all eyes on the SEC as they sit 1-2-3 in the BCS and a huge game between LSU and Arkansas on Friday. That game being Friday, and the last Lone Star Showdown being Thursday, forced an early set of picks. This could lead to lines that will change by Saturday, but as always, pick against the lines as listed here so we are all on the same page. Let’s do the damn thing, Thanksgiving flavored. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, and gluttony, we will have more than five games. Lots of classic rivalry games featuring ranked teams, combined with possibility of people missing early games makes sense.

College Football Week 12 Results

Chaos reigned last week, kicking off with Oklahoma State blowing any shot at the title on Friday night to Iowa State in a true gong show of a game. There was plenty of chicanery to be had in the slate we picked as well. Let’s see how we did, shall we?
