Super Bowl = Prop bets

So my favorite thing about the Super Bowl every year is the absurd amount of prop bets available. When I’m at a party w/ like minded folks, I’ll usually try to get as many going as possible. This year, now that I got Bodog working again, I decided to juts make a litany of them there. These are all for small amounts, so I won’t be buying a new car or having to sell my things if they all go south. As for the final, I think the Giants take the game. I plan on taking the money line, but am hoping late money will go the Pats way and push it a little higher. Between the insane pass rush of NY and NE’s porous secondary, I see Eli hilariously passing his brother’s ring total. After the jump, here’s a stupid list of things I’ve decided to wager on. Broncos - Patriots

I have no clue how Denver got past Pitt last week. I’m pretty sure tonight will be a violent beatdown. This will not be quick, I will not enjoy this.

Draft day

So apparently the Broncos are taking Von Miller. I don’t like this at all. He’s a great pass rusher, but the D line needs so much help and he seems like a less skilled version of Elivs Dumervil. My main problem is that #2 is just too high. Why not take one of the beastly DTs, preferably Dareus, or Patrick Peterson?!?

Any other year the Broncos could trade down to say the 6, pick up a 2nd round or future 1st and get Miller lower. Sadly, with players off the table due to the lockout, there won’t be many trades. I’m trying to think of a single decision the Broncos have made in the last…16 months I don’t hate and coming up blank. Hopefully I’m wrong here and Miller ends up being awesome.

Draft Week

Ahhhh draft week. While I hate the new 3 day format, my absurd love for drafts in general means I will watch far more of the media created/inflated spectacle than any reasonable man should. While the lockout is technically off with the ruling on Monday afternoon, I can guarandamntee that it will be appealed, causing a stay, meaning not a damn thing changes. This sucks, because free agency can’t start, and players can’t be traded. What this means is no trades of real import will likely happen. This sucks for 2 reasons. First, I love trades, and I especially love them during the draft. More importantly though, Denver at #2 could trade down and get 2 really good 1st round defensive players most years…but not now.

Assuming Denver stays at the 2, I’m really hoping they go with either Marcel Dareus or Patrick Peterson. I think Dareus is the more sensible pick at the spot, especially with the new kickoff rules nerfing some of Peterson’s value. Von Miller from A&M has been getting a lot of hype lately, but Dumervil will be coming back this year (if it happens) so why not take a guy in Dareus that can fit in at DT perfectly or DE w/ a little work.  All I know is if they don’t go with one of the elite D players, somebody needs to be fired.

Final thought for right now: I wish there was somewhere to bet on the bustiness of players. The fact that Cam Newton is being talked about as a potential #1 pick cracks me up. I just do not see this guy as a successful QB in the NFL. I would like to wager on his career success being closer to Jamarcus Russel than any other recent #1’s, but I sadly don’t think this exists. As always, I’m a moron, so this means Cam should thank me for his soon to be Hall of Fame career. But seriously, he’s gonna get picked by the Bills and be terrible. BOOOOOOOOOOK it.

More to come Thursday. Now I must sleep and think of nothing but my Jeopardy tryout where hopefully that whole “I’m a moron” thing doesn’t take over.

HORSEYPOCALYPSE 2k10!

Broncos-Colts is just about to kick off. Thankfully Champ Bailey got the all clear to play, although Goodman is out. You never want to have secondary injuries when you are going against Peyton Manning, but we’ll see. Denver looked good last week. Colts are vastly better, but who knows. Let’s go Orton!

Is this grounds for dropping a team? Trading a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rd pick to take TIM FUCKING TEBOW in the 1st round??? I…I just…I can’t believe this happened. Josh McDaniels has now entered my top 5 most hated in sports.

NFL Draft Hopes

As a Broncos fan there are plenty of needs to be addressed with the Draft over the next few days. My hope? I wan’t Rolando McClain (ILB from Bama) in the 1st round. A lot of people have said Dez Bryant, but I think there is some great WR talent that will be around when the 2 2nd round picks come up. With guy like Arellious Benn and my man Golden Tate, there should still be quality WR for the Broncos to pick in the 2nd. Bryant is a great WR without a doubt, by far the best available. However, Dez strikes me as a head case waiting to happen. This has nothing to do with the NCAA suspension, that was a bad situation and he got unduly punished. He just reeks of that diva mentality you see so often with WRs. Josh has already shown he doesn’t put up with it, and it would likely end with them fighting and trading him later on for pennies on the dollar.

With the defensive changes that Denver is making, McClain would fit perfectly in the new system and bring a familiarity to it more than some of the pros would have based on having run the same system with the Tide. WRs can always be gotten late, hell, Marshall was a 5th round pick back in the day. Defense is a much bigger issue for Denver, so why not take a guy who will fit in perfectly?
