If you’ve been following for awhile, my love of video games is pretty obvious. The NBA Finals will slow things down, but I plan on doing write ups on the big press conference like I have the last few years. After the jump, a few things I’m thinking going in, what I’d like to see, and what I don’t want to see.

Tomorrow I fly to Miami for the National Title game on Monday. While ND has won one during my lifetime, it’s not like I even knew what my left hand was at age 3, so it’s hard to claim a lot of joy from that. If you know me, hell if you just read this blog or my twitter, you know full well how emotionally wrapped up in sports I am. It is to an admittedly weird and likely problematic degree, and no team means more to me than the University of Notre Dame. My dad went there, so I grew up with it. But it wasn’t until I went there that it really took over my soul.
Coming into the year I was…well…less than optimistic about ND’s chances at success this year. It’s amazing the success ND has had this year. Now the only thing standing in the way is the team that won 2 of the last 3 titles, the unbeatable Tide, led by their evil cyborg of a coach who only cares about murder and dominance in football, Nick Saban. But you know what? Fuck it, we’re just gonna win the whole damn thing. This will be a knock down, drag out war, but ND can win this football game. Both D’s are outstanding and I’ll happily put ND’s offensive talent against theirs. I get why we are the underdogs, but I think a lot more of it is based on the past 5 years, not this season.
Either way, this summer at my reunion myself and 2 of my old roomates spent a night just yelling and being angry about the state of ND football, wondering if we’d ever get back to the National Title level, and just a few months later, here we are, one game away. It’s gonna be a big weekend.

So a few weeks ago I finished Mass Effect 3. This game has been surrounded in controversy since before it even came out. Between failed giveaways shooting the game into space, EA’s DLC shenanigans (where have we heard that before), bigoted clowns getting up in arms because there were a couple gay people somewhere in the universe, and of course, fanboys ready to wage war on Bioware because of the ending. I have many feelings about ME3 and the Mass Effect series as a whole. This is probably my favorite game series of all time. ME2 got a decent sized post out of me back in the day (here) but man, ME3 is just full of so much. After the jump I’ve got my feelings on the game as a whole, the ending, and the full series. This should go without saying, but there are ALL OF THE SPOILERS below, so, you know, don’t read if you don’t want them dummy. Also, this is crazy rambly and tl;dr, just be forewarned. (EDIT: I’ve been writing this over a series of days, I’m not gonna get into the announcement about their plans to add on, in short, I’m glad it’s not changing anything, just additional. Sorry this is super rambly. Carry on)

I just finished Mass Effect 3. People have been all up in arms over how it ends. Right now I’m just kinda flabbergasted. I’ll have thoughts later. Lots of thoughts. On the game as the whole, not just the end. But…wha?

So I woke up super hungover today, but some law school friends were in town randomly and wanted to get some lunch. Felt like a champ, drank all day, then ended up back at home, nothing really drawing me out, but I had Real Steel from Netflix, and let me tell you kids. It was hilarrrrrriously great. If you already follow me on twitter, you know my thoughts, but i decided drunkenly livetweeting my viewing of the movie was what needed to happen. I missed about the 1st 20 minutes, and really dont understand why Evangeline Lilly is in the movie at all, but it was super fun. I advise watching it, under the influence fo something. If nothing else, I hope my tweets can encourage you. I have way too many thoughts/feelings on this movie.

Milwaukee Bucks: 89 @
San Antonio Spurs: 82
I’ve decided to, as long as I remember to, play through the Spurs season on the days when they should be actually playing. Sadly, there is no real season for the foreseeable future, so this may be amusing. It’s also worth noting that since I typically only play My Player, I’m horrible at full team games. Anyway, let’s get to it.
Manu led the Spurs with 29 points but the Bucks got 28 from Steven Jackson to take the win. A fairly close game, but Milwaukee won points in the paint 26-11 which ultimately led to their victory.
LOOK WHAT YOU’VE MADE ME DO NBA PEOPLE! SAVE ME FROM MYSELF

So I end up at a country bar tonight, chatting with a cute girl and she doesn’t know how to 2 step. This is just about the best opening for a guy like me that exists. Take her up to the dance floor as a Clint Black song is ending waiting for the next song to start. Were just chattin, waiting for the next song. Up next…Katy Perry? The fuck? The next 4 are rap songs…I think the world is conspiring against me, but whatever, we’re still having a good time. About 20 minutes later she drops the “Oh yah, me and my boyfriend…” I quit listening. Seriously, I’m terrible at this game. /dies alone

Went back and finished Assassin’s Creed 2 (I know, 8 years later) tonight and the ending was….well, the main character summed it up best for me: What. The. Fuck? The premise of the game is pretty out there, so admittedly, I should’ve been on my toes I guess, but wow. Not the weirdest I’ve ever seen, nothing will top Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty’s ending. I mean, that was like a freaking acid trip. But, man, that was bizarre. Anyone else played it? Thoughts?
